Ollie didn't start as a good guy. The indulged only child of West Coast royalty, he bullied classmate, Lex Luthor & Duncan Allenmeyer, to the point where Lex accidentally caused Duncan's death. After his parent's death, he spent as much of his trust fund on sex, drugs and alcohol until his yacht crashed on an island. He spent 2 years there, using what skills he could lash together to survive. It proved to be his phoenix fire; he vowed that if he got off that island, he'd turn his life around and finally make his parents proud. On his return to civilisation (which was never really that civilised) he took a leaf from Gotham's urban legen, Batman, becoming a masked vigilante. Green Arrow robbed from the rich and gave to the poor. Along the way, he met Clark Kent, Arthur "AC" Curry, Vic Stone, Chloe Sullivan, Dinah Lance and Bart Allen who would eventually become part of his rag-tag group of adventurers, the Justice League (Bart gave them the name). The JL soon became synonymous with everything good in the world. At the same time, Queen Industries grew exponentially, the leader in corporate environmentalism. Ollie made his parents proud at last. His personal life hasn't followed that success. His adopted son, Roy, turned to drugs and had a child by one of the world's most notorious assassins before settling down (sort of). His marriage to Dinah 7 painfully tumultuous years which nearly broke the team in half. He knows his daughter, Cissie, is scarred forever by the fighting; it's probably why she prefers Clark & Lois to her own parents. None of his relationships/affairs last longer than a year. In the end, the JL is his whole world. Sometimes, it's enough. |
